It's spring break! Oh, yes, thank you god, I needed this.
And how did I decide to celebrate? Fanfic, of course! Specifically, this meme:
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts and stop when it's over, no lingering afterwards!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.
Only, the second half of step three? I didn't bother with that at all. I took my sweet time, thank you very much.
Anyway, the fandom I choose was Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Some of these may make you go, "Uh, the drabble and song have nothing to do with each other. What was Veleda on?." I apologize.
Song: Corrupt- Karissa Noel
Pairing: One-sided Kozue/Miki
Rating: PG-13
Kozue could taste blood in her mouth. There was her brother, chatting happily with the Himemiya girl. He looked so cheerful, so innocent.
Kozue hated him. She hated his sweetness, his kindness, his gentle smile.
And she loved him. She loved him so damn much. She couldn't live without him. He was her other half; the only one who could complete her.
So, she would make him hers. Cover him with muck and blood until they were exactly the same. He wouldn't be able to deny her, he never could.
He wouldn't be able to resist what would make them whole.
Song: Notes/Twisted Every Way- Phantom of the Opera
Characters: Student council
Rating: PG
A/N: Played awfully loose with this song, but that was inevitable unless I wanted to go severely AU. (Actually, that might not have been a bad idea...)
"Dueling? Are we in some swashbuckling romance? This is ludicrous."
Touga hardly reacted to Juri's outburst. "Are you backing out? Will you remove the rose seal already?" He sounded bored.
Juri's flinch was almost undetectable. "I didn't say that."
Touga smiled. "Of course you didn't."
The others didn't understand. Touga did. None of them could leave now. They were going to throw everything away to gain the chance to truly live for the first time. Juri resented it, Miki didn't understand, Saionji was too caught up in his adolescent fantasy with the Rose Bride.
Only Touga understood. And that's why he would win.
Song: See How The Fates Their Gifts Allot- The Mikado
Characters: Wakaba, Saionji (mentioned)
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Episode 20
A/N: Quite a bit darker than the actual song. Oh well.
Wakaba's mother had always told her that life just wasn't fair, and Wakaba had believed her. But, when Saionji-sempai came into her life, she started to hope. Started to dream that, for once, she would be the fortunate one.
Of course, it had all been a lie. Once again, plain little Wakaba was overlooked.
The old Wakaba would have swallowed the pain. But she had the black rose now. She was strong. Strong enough to take Saionji-sempai away from Himemiya Anthy. He would be hers, and she would never let him go.
This time, nothing would stop Wakaba from shining.
Song: Uptown Girl- Billy Joel
Pairing: One-sided Tsuwabuki/Nanami (In the most innocent possible way.)
Rating: G
A/N: There might possibly be something wrong with me.
Tsuwabuki had to admit that he couldn't support Nanamai-san in the manner she was accustomed to on his allowance. Which was terrible. A girl like Nanami-san deserved to have everything that life could offer, and he couldn't provide it.
But, money wasn't everything! Tsuwabuki couldn't buy her pearls, but he could make her lunch and carry her books. He showed his love that way.
She didn't really see him, not yet. But eventually she would realize that none of those rich boys could give her the love she really deserved. And then Tsuwabuki would be there, her dry cleaning in hand.
Song: Call and Answer- Barenaked Ladies
Pairing: Touga/Saionji
Rating: PG
Spoilers: End of the series
A/N: Set post-series
When Touga arrived at the dojo, Saionji was waiting, shinai in hand. Without a word, they got into position.
The first point went to Touga. Saionji stepped back. "Why are you here?"
Touga raised an eyebrow. "To spar."
"No more bullshit, Touga. Is this just another game? Or are you looking for a second chance?"
"And if I was?" Touga's voice was unusually soft.
Saionji's expression softened the very smallest degree. "I might be willing to give you one."
"Such a relief." Touga's smile was sardonic, but his eyes were reassured.
"But if you screw up again, I'll really kill you."
"Duly noted."
Song: Shoe Box- Barenaked Ladies
Characters: Ruka, Shiori, Juri (Mentioned)
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Episode 29
Tsuchiya-sempai,
We made muffins in cooking class, and I thought that you might like one. I love you!
Ruka crumpled the note. They had been dating for two days and already she was acting like his wife. What a wretched little thing. What could Juri possibly see in her? What was his goddess doing wasting her life on this worthless vermin?
It didn't matter much now. Very soon the entire school would know just pathetic Shiori was.
Ruka tossed the note in the trash. The muffin followed. Later, he'd tell her that it had made him sick. That should get a reaction.
Song: Good Old Fashioned lover Boy- Jason Mraz (Queen Cover)
Pairing: Touga/...You know, I want it to be a surprise.
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: Takes place post-series, but none, really.
A/N: At times, I labor under the illusion that I am slightly amusing. I apologize.
The thing people didn't understand about being the campus playboy was how much work it took. Each lover had to be satisfied, at least until he had them hooked. It was an art. Luckily, Touga was a master.
Dinner was a classic standard. Fine wine for his date, the check for him. Then back to his place for scintillating conversation and even better sex.
Touga checked his hair. Saionji glared. "I can't believe I agreed to this," he grumbled.
Touga smiled beatifically from across the table. "Try the chicken."
"Stop being such an ass."
Touga sighed. An artist was never appreciated in his own time.
Song: Sweet Music Man- Reba McEntire
Rating: PG
Characters: Anthy, Miki
Spoilers: Episode 5
Anthy has seen boys like Miki before. Gifted, innocent, eager to share themselves with the world. They never last long. They grow beaten, broken, and their music changes.
He thinks he loves her, and maybe in his own way he does. He calls her his shining thing. That's nothing new. The words change—muse, gift, angel—but the sentiment never does. He's in love with being in love, and he'll move on once the newness has faded.
Once, Anthy had it in her to regret it. Now she simply waits for the inevitable.
Still, it is a pretty song, she admits.
Song: She's an Angel- They Might Be Giants
Pairing: One-sided Ruka/Juri
Rating: G
Spoilers: Episode 29
Right from the start, Ruka had known that Juri was special. When she first pulled of her mask, the sweat made her skin glow golden, and her hair flew out in all directions like a halo.
It was simply inevitable that he would fall in love with her. He didn't bother trying to fight it.
What astounded him was that she didn't seem to know just how wonderful she was. There was a fragility in her, and Ruka wanted nothing more than shelter it from the world.
She had been his miracle. Now it was time to return the favor.
Song: Hold Me Tight- Across the Universe Soundtrack (Beatles Cover)
Pairing: Utena/Anthy
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: End of the series
A/N: The first Utena/Anthy I've written in literally years. Which is odd, considering that they're my all time favorite OTP. Takes place post-series.
In the dark, with Anthy's arms wrapped tightly around her, Utena feels like a drowning woman finally taking a breath of air. When Anthy kisse her, she's able to shake the loneliness off her like so much water.
"Anthy, Anthy, Anthy." She repeats her lover's name like a mantra, like a prayer. "Don't leave, never leave me."
"I won't," Anthy assures her, stroking her hair. "God, Utena, it's been so long."
I know, Utena wants to say, but the words get lost in the dreamy sigh that escapes as Anthy kisses her neck.
"We have all night, love," Anthy whispers.
Utena just breathes.

Comments
I really liked the Tsuwabaki/Nanami and Miki/Anthy. And the last one, because for some reason I can never get enough happy post-series U/A. It's good for the soul. <3
Wow. I could not write a story that fast without planning it out ahead of time.
Heh, neither could I, so I ignored that part of the meme. Some of the songs were less than three minutes. How was I supposed to write exactly 100 words in that amount of time?
And friend away!
I can only assume that the person who came up with this meme was operating under a very loose definition of drabble. Because there's no way I could come up with an idea, write it, then make it fit one hundred words in less than three minutes.
Most of the time, when I think Ruka, I think irrevocably hopeless pseudo-playboy. I know there is more to him than that, but I blame my perceptions on my first introductions to the series: Becka and Ka-Chan's website, long since lost to the vestiges of time.
So, to conclude a rambling thought... Very nicely written, and even if I didn't know the songs, the feelings from the drabbles did give me some insight into them.
even if I didn't know the songs, the feelings from the drabbles did give me some insight into them.
Eh heh, I will admit that at times the feeling of the song and the feeling of the drabble don't quite match up.
(And very nice to see you on lj!)
