Three fanfics to go: I realized that if you count Christmas Day as one of the days of Christmas, you end up with the 13 Days of Christmas, so you'll be getting the last three on the last day of Christmas. I'll be posting one in the morning when I first check my email, one in the afternoon after I come back from running errands, and the last will turn up tomorrow evening, probably at or just after midnight.
After this: I'll be taking a mini-break from fanfic writing and posting -- perhaps for a couple of days, since I just wrote thirteen fics in thirteen crazy days -- and then I'll be turning my attention to the prompt challenges I have sitting waiting for me to take them up. I'd taken the
fanfic100 challenge when I started writing "Neon Enoch Evangelion" and I'll be aiming to finish one or two of those a week; same goes for the
30_kisses challenge I'd taken on, with Muraki and Ukyou, from the manga continuity of Yami no Matsuei as the pairing of choice. And then there's the Vampire Author Auction, which I'm in the process of signing up for. Lots to do, but I've been on such a creativity craze lately, it doesn't seem like a lot of work at all.

Dude, my Takasugi image folder is humongo.
Mostly Gintama fan art (of which there was a bucketload of fantastic stuff at one point, and there probably still is but it's been years since I last went looking), but also a lot of historical fanart, random video game screens, Kenshin scans/screens, maps, photographs (of locations, related people, calligraphy, action figures!!1) and prints... Not to mention files of notes and a whole folder of pdfs I think I must have snagged from JSTOR when I should have been doing math homework instead. LOL. (I miss JSTOR.)
I wish I'd been more organized/more careful about recording sources though. Because good lord, I sure dug up a lot of stuff that I can't even remember where it came from now. (And given the nature of the internet, probably don't even exist anymore. I could kill myself for being so stupid! D:)
Those were good times, yo. I need to sit down and sort out all this random stuff though, one of these days.
(I should take a crack at his poetry again...)

In other news, my brain continues to tie itself into knots. Whoohoo.

I have to admit, I've only started scratching the surface of the Trinity Blood universe since I've only really seen the anime; now that I'm reading the light novels, I felt daunted in deciding to write a fanfiction set in this universe. But I didn't let that keep me from venturing into a world I've come to love and admire (It's like something you might get if you crossed Walter M. Miller's classic novel "A Canticle for Leibowitz", which features Catholic monks in a post-apocalyptic world trying to rebuild civilization, with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Really!). I just followed my heart and listened to what the characters had to say...

Midnight Mass in the Trinity Blood-verse,
Doctor Hobby wracking Joe's brain,
One Meifu Christmas office party,
A drunken Evangelion New Year's party,
Redpills stealing a Christmas tree,
Harry Dresden for the holidays,
Frank Sweitz adopting a David unit,
One Chateau Christmas party,
One Christmas spirit in the American Gods 'verse,
and An A.I. fic with David decorating his first Christmas tree.

Disclaimer: I do not own Trinity Blood, it's characters, concepts or other indicia, which belong to the late Sunao Yoshida, Thores Shibamoto, Kentaro Yasui, Tomohiro Hirata, Gonzo, FUNimation, et al.
Author's Note: Set sometime between Episode 19 and 20 of the anime. This is possibly a bit of an extended universe fic: my Grigori characters from a series of Evangelion fics I've been writing decided they wanted to visit the Trinity Blood universe. Mild hints of Abel/Esther.

It snowed for much of the day. I myself got into work (and without falling over, at that) but a number of others worked from home, or took a day of annual leave, thus avoiding the mess on the roads and the confusion of the trains.
It's snowing again now outside.
I spent part of the evening knitting an emergency hat in chunky yarn: a couple of inches of ribbing for the rim, smooth stocking stitch otherwise. Unfortunately it came out a bit large. Not unwearably large, but on the large side. Oh well. Possibly it will shrink a little after washing. In the meantime it is certainly wearable and comes down over my ears. (I should have remembered that the last time I tried that pattern it came out a bit large then, too.)
I shouldn't complain. I am warm and comfortable and within easy walking distance of work and shops. And the snow still has a certain fascination: I do not get it that often, and can still enjoy looking out of the window and watching it. I probably won't feel the same come February, but . . .

I'm home. This is the weather the dog likes: crisp, cold, weather that puts him in mind of wolfish ancestors hunting on the steppes.
Me, I put on long underwear and dozens of layers over that, and top it off with the sheepskin Uigur hat I haggled for in Xinjiang, and trudge in the snow behind him. It's frozen on top, so you crunch and rock and hunt for ruts that already exist as you walk, or you teeter-totter across the surface, half-falling at every second step. While Cabal is happy in a world filled with sharp smells and frozen rivers, and he bounces over the ice and snow with joy.

Many years ago I discovered (via the currently hiatus-bound Fabulist) Jason Webley. I posted this a link to this song, Eleven Saints, a song Jason Webley wrote and performed with Jay Thompson...
Jason was pleased, and wrote to me to say thanks, and then, a couple of years ago, introduced me in email to his friend Amanda Palmer, with whom he was working on a project, as they worked to bring the music of two conjoined twin sisters they had discovered on the internet to the world. There were two songs out on the internet by the mysterious pair for a long time, but a new song, " A Campaign of Shock and Awe", crept out today: you can hear it at http://www.myspace.com/evelynevelyn. Highly recommended, and not just because of the, y'know, family connections.

Right. I do not want to be disturbed tonight. Maddy and I will be beginning our New Year's catch-up by watching the first part of Doctor Who 'The End of Time'.
- zvi: That discussion about discussing fanwork - In the fandom of my dreams, critical discussion is for readers. In the same way that I tl;dr about Glee or Smallville or The X Files, I want to tl;dr about fan stories. I want to compare mpreg stories and tell you which is better and why. I want to deeply examine why I like some stories in the Ladies Choice collection and why some of them leave me cold. -
- toft: long necks, deep holes - It seems that a lot of all this is lumped together - people who are anti-Archive seem to also be anti-OTW and/or anti-Transformative Works and Cultures (the academic Fan Studies journal) and/or anti-acafan in general, often lumping those things together without any real sense of how they are distinguished from each other, or what they are really against. -
- morgandawn: What We Have Here Is A Failure To Communicate - Part 2 - What social contract do fans owe each other? Some fans feel that there should be laws or at the very least honorable agreements among fans on copying and storing fan fic, linking to websites, talking about fandom and fan fiction in public, and when to honor requests to remove fan fic and vids from public view. Others stare at you blankly when talking about "rules" and then flip you off. -
cruiscin_lan: What makes YOU squick? - So basically, right now I'm looking for someone who can relate. What squicks you? Have you ever been squicked by a squick you didn't know you had? Have you gotten over squicks? Do you stop reading after hitting a squick, or do you try to skip it and keep going? Will you make exceptions based on author or other factors? -
thelastgoodname: It occurs to me that an argument could be made.... - What if a person didn't want a future in which fannish activities were recognized as legal? What if said person liked doing things that are morally and legally dubious--what if that were part of the draw? What if the illegitimacy of the act were part of why a person participated? -
For some strange reason (Okay, I was waiting till they went on sale), I neglected to get myself a calender for my room and for my other desk in the computer room. Mind you, the other desk is pretty much a catch-all for books/papers/coffee cups/computer components/etc, and I rarely actually use it for desk-like purposes such as sitting at it or writing on it. I have my Edith Wharton moments when I write best when I'm curled up in bed, or I do the writer-y thing and write in a coffee shop, or I make like my dad's work buddy "Dana"'s "Uncle Steve" (who is a very famous author from Maine; three guesses as to who he is...) and write at the keyboard.
Needless to say, I snagged one calender that I wanted and another that was a surprise. I'd spotted an origami page-a-day calender in the store front Barnes & Noble in downtown Lowell and planned to get that one; I lucked out and they had just one left when I went in this morning. Also picked up a copy of "The Historian" from their bargain table as well as a nifty journal with my favorite Edgar Allen Poe quote on the front: "All there is that we say or seem/Is but a dream within a dream". Not sure what I'll use it for, but I'll think of something.
I tried getting a Tolkien-themed calender from the calender shoplet in the Burlington Mall, but no such luck: someone beat me to it, which is the first time in a while (last year I got a Dresden Files calender featuring Chris McGrath's cover artwork). I scanned around for something good; the "TrueBlood" calenders had sold out, almost got a "Nightmare Before Christmas" calender, but I settled on a Death Note calender. If I can stand two different pics of Misa Amane for two different months. Not sure who I dislike more -- in a healthy way -- her or Light: Light at least is more complex and "in-te-res-ting", while I can never tell if Misa is really so ditzy that she's oblivious to what a jerk Light really is (wow, an in-universe fangirl who's all Draco In Leather Pants for the crooked guy), or if she's really as twisted as he is. Poor Ryuuk, he only gets one page. What can I say? I like shinigami, even when they're weird looking gothic skeleton-bird critters.
One thing I passed on was a Bleach calender: I like the concepts of the series, but the huuuuge cast of characters (especially when the team heads to the Soul Society) is dizzying. I can't keep the names straight with the faces of the Soul Reapers beyond Rukia. Thus I am trying to beat into submission that part of me which wants to start incorporating a few elements from Bleach into some of my Yami no Matsuei fics. This included an otherwise funny yet serious conversation between Tatsumi and Morgan Falcone (my OC) in which Morgan describes her teenaged daughter Allison (the both of them died in the same car accident; Allie didn't want to move on and leave her mother behind when Morgan was selected to work for the Ministry of Hades) trying to sneak over to the Soul Society because Allison thinks she wants to have a kid. I can't decide if Morgan is a borderline Mary Sue or if my Sue-dar is just being over-sensitive. But then again, when is the last time you saw a thirty-five year old Sue in fanfiction?
Trinity Blood fic to be posted in later tonight; I'm pleased at how well it turned out. And I completely surprised myself by managing to scribble out the Evangelion snowball fight fic I've been playing with for a while: it's nice to see these folks actually *enjoying* life for a change (even if that includes Gendo being his usual wet-blanket self in the middle of the snow-nanigans).

I just spent about an hour on a quest for the PERFECT TOP GEAR ICON and then remembered I have about twenty free icon slots so I could pick more than one.
So now I am going to ramble about RPF for a bit. Please note: I don't judge anyone. Whether you read every interview a TV star gives or check out every single video from a band's tour, or whether you do none of that and just read the silly AU fic, I don't think any less of you. This is purely about my boundaries and what I'm comfortable with.
( And waoh, that got long. Time for a cut. )

I had an early appointment today in Nyack. It was SO COLD OMG! 16 degrees F.
The office where I had the appointment had no heat. It was seriously cold in there. Not fun.
On my way back, I was stopped by the po-lice for "speeding". The officer said that I had been going 39 in a 35 Mile zone.
He made me roll down my window for THAT!??! It's FREEZING!
He let me off with a warning, so that was good. I can't believe 4miles over the limit is a pulling-over offence. Geez.
Anyway, I ran a few errands I needed to do and decided that what this day needed was a big pot of Guinness Stew.
Yes, cats and kittens, it is that time of year again! Hearty celtic stews and thick, crusty breads in the Cleary household :)
Yum!
When I finally got to a gas station to fill up, I managed to splash gasoline all over my hand and my jeans. Fail.
What fun suprises will this day spring upong me next? Stay tuned for the next installment of... Day of Yay and WTF!

So my beloved Maelstrom has announced it's event dates, including the date of it's new sister event, Odyssey, put together by the lovely
kneeshooter... the problem however, is that it clashes with Amecon. ARGH.
At this point I honestly don't know what I'm going to do. Amecon is far inferior to Ayacon, but I've still been going for years, and it's my only con of the year. I know we were all discussing going to a different event, but not much further has gone on with that, and I figured I'd just end up going.
So um, ack? :(
