Fanish post of ultimate fanishness

School is over, and my finals are done! Whoo!

Now I just need to get a job.

I promised myself that once school was done I'd write a big fan post, so that's what this is.

First of all, I am never reading manga in public again. I keep getting weirdos. First there was the woman who prattled on and on about her painfully OOC fanfic, and then there was the guy who kept talking about his weird (and slightly illegal) business schemes. I just want to read my comic books in peace, man!

But enough about strange encounters.

I've found myself sucked into a new series, Get Backers. I'm not very far though, especially in the anime. I'm up to volume eight in the manga and episode nine in the anime.

The manga and anime are pretty much the same so far. The manga contains story arcs that the anime doesn't, and the character designs are a bit different. Hevn, for instance looks more adult and sophisticated in the anime. Also, her clothes are much, much less revealing.

Hevn and her much less revealing clothes )

Also in "changed character designs," Himiko's hair is a bit curly in the anime. Also, her skin is lighter, which disappoints me.

A big complaint I have about the manga is how much the female characters are objectified. If they're not wearing ridiculously revealing outfits, then their clothes are getting ripped off. It's infuriating. I was excited when I first saw Kazuki, because I thought we were finally seeing a female character who wasn't weak, objectified, or both. But, no, it turns out that Kazuki is a guy. (That's not a spoiler.) The anime has much less of objectification. Then again, the anime is much less realistic when it comes to blood. The manga isn't gory, but when people get cut, they, you know, bleed.

Who's my favorite? Well, I like many of the characters a lot, including Ban, Ginji, Kazuki and Himiko, but I'm quite interested in Akabane.

Pictures of Akabane smiling ever so nicely )

He's polite and pleasant, and just look at that smile! Plus, he's a doctor, so you know he has to be nice.

...Ahaha! I'm joking, of course. Naturally, he's actually a mass murderer! He kills even more efficiently than Muraki! (The Muraki in my head is now grousing about "quality over quantity.")

Akabane is quite taken with Ginji. Honestly, he's going to start comparing Ginji's eyes to gems (which might be difficult, seeing as they're brown) any episode now.

After I'd seen a few episodes and read some of the manga, I went to check out what people in the fandom were ranting about over at [info]fanficrants. What I found seemed awfully familiar. To paraphrase:

"Just because Ginji is blond and cute does not mean he can't top in bed."

"Ginji and Ban are very, very close and care about each other very, very much. If one of them starts dating someone else, he will not just forget about his partner."

"Akabane kills people for fun. He is a scary bastard, and he definitely freaks Ginji out. Please don't write fluffy bunny fic about them."

I think I'm going to feel right at home in this fandom.

Whew, I think that's all I got.

Anime and manga post + sex

I just finished watching Princess Tutu. Uh, wow. Wow.

I actually have a bit of a history with Princess Tutu. The first time I saw the title was at fanfiction.net. I was simply scrolling past the anime/manga titles looking for whatever series I wanted fanfic for, and the words caught my eye. My exact thought was "Princess Tutu? Now there's a show I'm never going to watch." This proves once and for all that the anime gods have a sense of humor. Later I would hear Princess Tutu compared to Shoujo Kakumei Utena not once, but multiple times. I am obsessed with Utena, so any show being compared favorably to it is a must see. When my birthday came around, [info]tekararogue asked for my wishlist, and the first Princess Tutu DVD was on the list. [info]tekararogue was... surprised. I'm not exactly a "princess tutu" person. It was clear that was what she had had to get. Luckily I wasn't dependent on the DVDs or else I wouldn't nearly be done by now.

Ok, now that that boring story is over its time for spoilers )

I picked up my monthy manga a couple days ago--Angel Sanctuary 17 and Cain Saga (Count Cain) 1. What can I say, it was a Kaori Yuki month.

And, finally, the Top Sex Stories of 2006. Come one, you know you want to read.

Fannish ramblings

I picked up my monthly manga the other day, [info]tekararogue lent me season two of The Pretender, and just today I bought another manga with a Barnes and Noble gift cetificate. I'm overloaded with fannish glee.

Saiyuki Reload volume two was cool. Then again, Saiyuki is always cool. Man, I can hardly wait to get volume three. I've heard so much about how fantastic Burial arc is.

The other monthly manga purchase was Angel Sanctuary volume fourteen.

Cut for spoilers )

I am going gaga over The Pretender. I'm getting pretty good at figuring out the plot. I'm proud of myself.

Possible spoilers up to Seaon two, episode 11, 'Gigolo Jarod' )

I want a Miss Parker "bitch please" icon.

Today, I bought the first +Anima manga. It is the cutest thing I have ever read. But not schmaltzy, just freaking adorable. I promised myself that I wasn't going to start a new series until I finished one of the ones I was collecting already, but they didn't have any of the volumes I needed. I definitely don't regret buying +Anima.

The two main characters seem somewhat... familiar. An incredibly cheerful brunet with a huge appetite befriends a ill-tempered blond. The blond is exasperated by his new companion's silliness, but stays anyway. Cooro and Husky are so Tsuzuki and Hisoka.

Oh! I also finally downloaded the first season (thirteen episodes) of Maria-sama ga Miteru, but I haven't watched them yet. I still have a ways to go on Rose of Versailles.

I bought Yami no Matsuei volume 7 and Angel Sanctuary. YnM was good. I know the story, so no surprises, but it was good. Viz continues their record of completely screwing up the translation with stupid mistakes. Also, I've noticed that Hisoka's eyes change size often. Sometimes they're fairly small (for a manga character) and sometimes they nearly go off his face.

As for Angel Sanctuary...

Cut for spoilers and lots and lots of 'HOMYGODing' )

You know, I'm getting really tired of getting majorly spoiled for AS. It's always an accident. I google the characters' names to make sure I'm spelling them correctly and then HUGE SPOILER. Note to self: next time just check the manga.
