I hope that that's everything.

Right, this is just a little late.

Right after b_hallward convinced me to sign up for remixthedrabble, I was struck by a frightening thought. What if if I was assigned to remix her? That would be bad. I would fail. Utterly and completely. Bad.

So, I just hoped that luck and random chance would be on my side. The assignments were sent out... and I got phoebe_zeitgiest. And then I raged at the unfairness of the universe. The whole idea of the remix is "If you wrote this fic, what would what it be like?". The problem is that writing wise Phoebe's and my brains work very differently. I simply never would have thought to write anything like the majority of her stories. Plus there's the whole "Fuck, this is brilliant; what if I mess it up?" thing.

I made a big angsty post about it, and who should comment but Phoebe. This lead to a conversation that was both comforting and rather awkward on my end.

Choosing what to remix was the first hard part. I was both drawn to and repelled by And Not Your Yellow Hair. On one hand, it's one of my favorite stories and I knew it would fascinating to remix. On the other hand, I also knew that it would be really freaking hard to remix. The Way We Weren't seemed the most logical choice. I ship Muraki/Ukyou/Oriya, and it was a subject I knew I could work with. So, there was no reason not to do it. But I felt ashamed for not trying And Not Your Yellow Hair. Was I afraid of a challenge? Was I a coward? I felt like I had to at least try. (Veleda: like a shounen hero in some ways.) So, I did both.

I finished with plenty of time (for once), and asked Dorian if she would beta. She said yes, and I sent the drabbles off. Or so I thought. She never got them. Yeah, my email provider sucks mightily. So, the day before everything was due, I finally worked up the courage to email her again, freaked when I realized the problem, I emailed the drabbles again.

So, Dorian liked them, Phoebe liked them, and I didn't have to kill myself or flee to the Sierra Nevada. Happy ending!

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena- Anthy. I love Anthy, because she's the most complex character in the series--victim and victimizer, self-sacrificing and vicious, kind and cruel. She's dark, twisted, and I adore her for it. (Ok, that was two sentences.)
2. Yami no Matsuei- Hisoka. Hisoka is pure, unadulterated awesome. I love his inner strength, his courage, and the fact that he never gives up.

Oriya's friendship with Muraki has been defined by loss. The loss of his friend's innocence, his conscience, now maybe even his soul. Through it all, Oriya survived by keeping memories of easier times close to his heart.

Finally, Muraki himself left, leaving Oriya with the key card, a little piece of plastic and dark secrets, and a promise to guard it. Now, even those have vanished--the key card gone with the boy and the promise meaningless--and all Oriya has left are his memories.

Now, he sits in the dark and wonders how long he has until those too disappear.

I'm all depressed and anxious again. Poopy. (I am sooo mature.) Don't worry though, it's not shootmyselfintheheadkthnxby kind of depressed and anxious. Just normal stuff.

I marched in the local parade on Labor Day. My dad's running for reelection (he's a county commissioner), so I'm part of the "Tom Mayer for County Commissoner" campaign. I highly encourage the local people on my flist to vote for him. Not because he's my dad, but because he's dedicated, knows what he's doing, and fully supports GLBT programs. He's done quite a lot for the OASOS program.

Yeah, I love my daddy, and when someone you love is a politician, you show your love by trying to get people to vote for them.

Now for fic! I wrote a Bleach/Yami no Matsuei crossover for fic_on_demand. Aizen finds blueprints for an inter-universal transporter (and espresso machine) in Uruhara's garbage. Whacky hijinks ensue.

With Closed Eyes

Nagare closes his eyes and he sees his children. He sees his daughter as she never was: a little girl dancing in the garden, laughter in her eyes.

He sees his son as he could have been: standing tall and proud, surpassing all expectations.

His daughter would have been a beauty, the light of his life. His son would have eclipsed them all, would have risen above their hate. With his eyes closed, he watches them grow.

But he can't close his eyes forever. Can't live in the fantasy. He opens them, and he is alone.

He supposes it is a fitting punishment.

Title: A Perfectly Reasonable Explanation

The Shokan Division was a place of constant chaos, and Tatsumi considered it his job to shuffle, cajole, or force that chaos into some semblance of order. That meant he had to know everything that happened.

That's why when he heard unusual noises coming from the break room, he quickly strode over to uncover the problem.

He found Kurosaki-kun and Tsuzuki-san stuck together with what appeared to be unnaturally sticky honey, and the Gushoshin being chased by winged barbecue sauce bottles. Watari looked up and exclaimed "Tatsumi, I can explain everything!"

Tatsumi shut the door. Some things he just didn't want to know.

The prompt was Muraki: Collateral damage. I'm not quite sure if my Muraki is in character, but I think it works. I'm almost never entirely happy with drabbles. Word count requirements are icky. Warning for major abuse of dashes.

Edit: I changed a few words, and now I feel better.

Third Law

Great Minds know that great causes require sacrifice. The world exists on give and take-- an equal and opposite reaction.

And what could be a greater cause than his-- to finally triumph over death?

It was not an easy task; loss was to be expected. But what was a little collateral damage compared to his quest? His test subjects-- Maria Wong, Tsubaki-hime, the children of the Queen Camellia-- were almost noble figures. Their sacrifice was paving the way for a new era.

Muraki was not a naive man. He doubted his experiments took any comfort in their contribution.

He didn't care.

I am in such a bad mood it isn't even funny. So fucking pissed off. Just... fuck, fuck, fuckity, fuck.

Shinto dogma teaches that death is pollution. To touch a dead body is to be contaminated. Muraki wonders if this makes him filthy beyond repair, as he admires the blood on his hands. He has stated before that blood and sin can be washed away, but, truly, he prefers the idea of a permanent stain. It amuses him to think that underneath his whitewashed exterior lies a torrent of darkness and color. He wonders if the women (and men) would swoon if they saw him for what he really is.

Muraki is forever polluted. That's the way it should be.
