I signed up to write two drabbles. I was assigned sophinisba and, because the universe hates me and wants me to stress, p_zeitgeist. I'm kind of nervous about signing up to write for YnM next round since I don't know what I'll remix if I get assigned to Phoebe next time.

Summary: Oriya tries to get ready for an incredibly important business meeting, and Muraki is completely unhelpful.
A/N: Written for comment_fic, for the prompt: Muraki, he could, in fact, commit sexual harassment simply by sitting very quietly in the next room. It's been far too long since I last wrote YnM fic. I had forgotten how much fun Muraki is to write.

Right, this is just a little late.

Right after b_hallward convinced me to sign up for remixthedrabble, I was struck by a frightening thought. What if if I was assigned to remix her? That would be bad. I would fail. Utterly and completely. Bad.

So, I just hoped that luck and random chance would be on my side. The assignments were sent out... and I got phoebe_zeitgiest. And then I raged at the unfairness of the universe. The whole idea of the remix is "If you wrote this fic, what would what it be like?". The problem is that writing wise Phoebe's and my brains work very differently. I simply never would have thought to write anything like the majority of her stories. Plus there's the whole "Fuck, this is brilliant; what if I mess it up?" thing.

I made a big angsty post about it, and who should comment but Phoebe. This lead to a conversation that was both comforting and rather awkward on my end.

Choosing what to remix was the first hard part. I was both drawn to and repelled by And Not Your Yellow Hair. On one hand, it's one of my favorite stories and I knew it would fascinating to remix. On the other hand, I also knew that it would be really freaking hard to remix. The Way We Weren't seemed the most logical choice. I ship Muraki/Ukyou/Oriya, and it was a subject I knew I could work with. So, there was no reason not to do it. But I felt ashamed for not trying And Not Your Yellow Hair. Was I afraid of a challenge? Was I a coward? I felt like I had to at least try. (Veleda: like a shounen hero in some ways.) So, I did both.

I finished with plenty of time (for once), and asked Dorian if she would beta. She said yes, and I sent the drabbles off. Or so I thought. She never got them. Yeah, my email provider sucks mightily. So, the day before everything was due, I finally worked up the courage to email her again, freaked when I realized the problem, I emailed the drabbles again.

So, Dorian liked them, Phoebe liked them, and I didn't have to kill myself or flee to the Sierra Nevada. Happy ending!

All right, between the poll at my lj and the one a dreamwidth, identical entries--one at crack_van and one at my journal--just barely won out. I think I like that the best, if only because all those personal notes and snarky comments that no one at crack_van cares about? They can go here.

I want to rec more than just the same old Tsuzuki/Hisoka stuff. I love Tsuzuki/Hisoka. I do. I really, really do. But there's more out there. Not that there won't be plenty of Tsuzuki/Hisoka recs. I am what I am, after all.

I also want to try to stray from the authors and stories that everybody knows, rec some of the new authors. This has turned out to be a bit difficult. First of all, the fandom is... pining for the fjords. There's not a lot of new stuff being posted to lj and the like. FF.net is a bit better, but that brings me to the second problem. Most of the new stuff seems to either suck or is unfinished. I'm frustrated by the number of WsIP that are good enough to rec.

Also, this should hardly surprise anyone, but... argh somehow I will screw this up! I don't know how yet, but it will happen. People will read a story I rec and decide that it sucks. Everyone will think that I have terrible taste. They will hate me on a deeply personal level! What was I thinking?

Lucky for me, at least today's story is unproblematic. It's different, doesn't seem too widely known (which is a shame), and I know it's excellent and have no qualms about reccing it.

After some thinking, I have decided that the best way to wake is right next to a very attractive person that you remember having awesome sex with the night before, and they tell you that due to a quirk of fate, you are now a multi-billionaire. However, the second best way to wake up is logging on to livejournal to find that one of your favorite fanfic writers has written a long fic for one of your favorite series, featuring your two favorite characters, and it's really, really good.

Fic I totally want to write:

Watari and Tsuzuki are fuck buddies. Hisoka and Tatsumi are in love. And in denial about it. And horrible repressed. Clearly, Watari and Tsuzuki have to do something.

Ynm/H.P. Lovecraft crossover. It even has a title! And a rudimentary plot! But I think that a writer would have to be far more talented than I am to pull it off.

Fic that shamelessly and mercilessly parodies all those fluffy bunny!Muraki/Tsuzuki fics. Staring Konoe and Oriya.

Fic in which Hisoka has absolutely no interest in Tsuzuki romantically, but has a sex dream about him anyway. I mean, Hisoka is a teenage boy, Tsuzuki is an very attractive man, and they spend a whole lot of time together. These things happen.

Fic in which Tsuzuki and Hisoka have sex, decide that the whole thing was really weird, but decide that they still love each other, just not in a sexual or romantic sense, and they agree to stay partners and friends with no angst about it.

It's scary how many of these would have the added benefit of pissing off rabid shippers. I mean, I'd never write anything for solely that reason, but...

You know, I am the very embodiment of this comic. I can't let things go. I have to argue, have to exhaustively point out all the myriad ways that my particular view is the right one. Even when I know it would be smarter and easier to walk away, I just can't. So, a few minutes ago, I got an email saying that I had a new review for Got a Lot to Learn, my teacher/student roleplay, BDSM fic in which Hisoka tops. That made me happy, because I'm feeling depressed about my writing right now, and that fic has been well received. However, this is the review:

I LOVE D/s, I really do! But I can not, for the life of me
understand why all the piarings I'd love to see D/s for are flipped
around! *bangs head against wall* This was an absolutely beautifully
written fic, and you're a talented author, but...I can not picture
Hisoka dominating. I can't picture Yue, Fai, Kamui or Subaru
dominating either, but what do I find so much of? *shudder*

My first reaction was, "Why did you read it then?" I believe the exact words in the summary were "Hisoka dominates the hell out of Tsuzuki." I couldn't have possibly been more clear. I can understand train wreck syndrome, but then why complain to me about it? I didn't make her read the story.

If would be one thing if she had found something wrong with story, but no. She found it "absolutely beautifully," and she thinks that I'm talented. (And I thank her for that, by the way. I'll take praise wherever I find it.)

My second reaction, was "You find a lot of dominant!Hisoka fics? Where!? Where!? Link me!" I find so few, it's not fair that she keeps stumbling upon them. Though, sadly, I have the tragic suspicion that she's being hyperbolic.

My third reaction was a bit more nasty and, admittedly subjective. "Did you even watch/read the series?" I thought. "Hisoka couldn't be more of a dominant if he wore a sign around his neck." This isn't to say that I haven't read very good YnM BDSM that has Hisoka bottoming, but it has to be about trust and intimacy instead of submission. Hisoka is really, really not a submissive.

Anyway, I am clearly an asshole.
